Advent Calendar

I was thinking about the Advent Calendar the other day. I know what you have to do...but I wasn't sure why people do them. Of course it is fun to get little gifts every day, but what is the real meaning?

I found this article
"Centuries ago, the importance of this event caused many Christians to feel that it was inadequate merely to mark off only one day on the yearly calendar for celebrating this incredible gift from God. Believers had (and still do have) such a sense of awe and overwhelming gratitude and wonder at what happened that first Christmas that they felt the need for a period of preparation immediately beforehand. They could then not only take time themselves to meditate on it, but also teach their children the tremendous significance of Christmas." source.
I love it. It is in preparation for Jesus Birth! Can I get an amen to this please!?!

AMA's best dressed

There are a lot of weird outfits at the AMAs. I didn't even want to put those ugly things on my blog. So I chose the best:

An early new years resolution

I decided to make a new years resolution, starting today.
Let me explain. I sent my Mom's birthday card on Friday, November 12. Her birthday was the NEXT day Saturday, November 13. COME ON...this is not email, Judy, it takes a couple of DAYS to get from one mailbox to the other!
I am so disappointed in myself, I honestly can't think of one birthday card that arrived on time in the year 2010. So sad.

The resolution:
In the year 2011, I will put forth every effort to get birthday cards out early or on time.

How am I going to do this you ask? I have a couple of ideas that I am excited to implement this year:
  1. Make a list of all the birthdays I need to remember
  2. Put all the birthdays in my phone under their contact and have my phone remind me a week in advance (I don't know if this is possible, but David will help me figure it out. Maybe there is a phone app for this)
  3. Start buying birthday cards in advance to have on hand, so when I remember, I will have a bunch purchased (or made by me, a designer. Go figure, what a thought...maybe making birthday cards is a good resolution for next year if this one goes well)
That is all the ideas I can think of right now. How do you do it? Do you have any great ideas you want to share with me?
Can't wait to hear your resolutions! Lets see how I do with this one :)
Cute colorful mailboxes to keep us all inspired to use them more, esp. for birthday cards:

Niece and Aunt look alike

I wanted to compare how similar my niece (Emma) and I look.
Below are side by side pictures when I was 3, which is her age now!
Same hair style and hair type. Her hair is more light and red than mine was. I think we have the same nose. Do you see the similarities?

Here is us now, present day:

Remember the Picture

In honor of "Remember the Alamo", I wanted to do "Remember the Picture" at the Alamo. I have a picture of Justine and I at the Alamo in June of 2006. I thought, "How fun would it be to recreate the same picture and see how we have changed while we are there."
Enough said.

BEFORE
(June, 2006):

AFTER
(October, 2010):
What a difference 4 years can make. Justine is wearing blue shirts in both pictures. lol.

Orange Cup

Tonight my family and I walked around this shopping center in San Antonio, TX. My brother Joe and I went to this place called Orange Cup. It serves frozen yogurt.

I loved everything about it!

Healthy, modern/clean design, fun, and "green" all at the same time. Joe said that the interior reminded him of an Apple store....this is a good comparison. The worker was so nice and gave us samples to try of the 4 frozen yogurt flavors there. You can add healthy mix-ins with your frozen yogurt or you can get it blended like a smoothie. They had this thing where you can plug in your iPod and play your own music in the store. Joe plugged his phone into it and it worked. Maybe everywhere does this, but this is the first time I have seen it.  I will posts pics later of my own experience there, but here are some off their website. A very cool website too.

A bride you will never forget

Look at this wedding dress. Dramatic. Can't decide if I love it or hate it. It is a piece of art if I do say so myself. More for a runway rather than a wedding in the midwest!

a time to visit family

I am going to San Antonio with my family to visit more family(Thursday-Monday). We will all be together again just like this picture (minus the sledding and snow activity):

Justine (my little sis) and I were down there in 2005 or 2006. We stopped in San Antonio for the night before we went to Monterry, Mexico for a missions trip. I want us to recreate this pirctures to see how we have changed! I think that would be fun.

Hopefully I will come back with fun stories and pics for my blog! Everyone have a good weekend.

For your home

Hello, these chairs are so fun! Pantone color folding chairs. You can find them here. Amazing. I think only designers will get this...but if you aren't a designer and think these are creative and awesome...I commend you!
Where I envision these chairs going:
-an art studio
-a design agency
-a "white-walled" apartment where you can't paint
-as dinning room chairs, with tables that are similar to these:
Cool huh?!?

A new hair do

I wanted to do my hair with a little braid in the front to hold my bangs back for my symphony concert. I watched this video and did the first option (rope braid/french twist) she shows. She makes it look so easy to do. It is really challenging.

I practiced doing my hair like this all day and it was a disaster. Practice paid off, and this is how my hair turned out for the concert. Pretty darn good I think:

Wish list #2

I have been obsessed with this font. It is called Liza Pro, by Underware.
I have been researching it and learning about it and I want it on my computer. so. bad.
But it is not in the budget (thanks Dave Ramsey). Maybe if I still want it by Christmas, I will ask for it for. I am a nerd, a font as a present. lol. What can I say.
Please enjoy. It is a beautiful thing:
