Scarf Challenge #3

Scarf Challenge #3!
I wore the scarf as a head band! Fun :)
Well, this challenge was great to put together. If you have any more challenges, ideas, or items for me...shoot me an email (judybligh86@gmail.com) or leave a comment.
*Note: do you like my purple tank top? It has this crochet back. Look what this fashion blogger says about crochet right now. It is a nice feminine detail that you think an older generation would wear, but totally wearable today!*

Scarf Challenge, outfit 2

Don't forget to be creative with your scarfs. They don't have to go around your neck, even though this would have been adorable around my neck. I just wanted to shake things up a bit and used this as my belt :)
*Notice the detail I did with the broach and the bobby pins in my hair*
Hope you liked outfit #2!

Scarf Challenge, Outift #1

Here is the first outfit of the challenge! All black with a punch of color...grandma Bligh's scarf. I wore this outfit to an outdoor wedding I played violin for. The scarf was held together by this scarf hook thing (see above in middle picture) that I got from my Grandma Frey's jewelry box. I haven't ever seen these scarf accessory/hook "thingys" (I don't even know the proper name for it). Totally useful, cute, and came in handy for this scarf and outfit. Let me tell you what our Granmother's generation had it together when it came to this scarfs business.
Stay tuned for the other 2 outfits of the challenge!

Scarf challenge

David's grandmother was going to have a rummage. So, I went over to her house one day to look around to see what she was going to be selling at her rummage. She had these 3 fun and completely different looking scarfs. She was selling them for .10 each! She gave them to me for free. Here they are. Very cool.
Now that the background story is told, I have decided to give myself a fashion challenge! I want to blog 3 outfits, one outfit that goes with each scarf. Let me present, "Scarf Challenge".
In the next week, I will have 3 outfits blogged and you will be seeing these beautiful scarfs featured.

Project Runway Review

I ran out got the July issue of Marie Claire Magazine when it came out on stands. Why did I do this you ask? Well...Seth Aaron's collection was in this issue (winner of Project Runway, season 7). Here are the images from the magazine. I think they are beautifully created and very striking. One last congrats and good job to Seth Aaron.

Happy Weekend and have a cupcake!

Here is a website for everyone to enjoy on their weekend. It is such a beautiful and light website...perfect for an easy weekend peak!
What cupcake would you choose to make first? There is one for every type of person, no matter what food flavor you favor in life.
I would pick this one, Peanut Butter Cupcake with Peanut Butter Frosting and Chocolate Ganace. See below:
Yum.
But the weird thing is, I don't have cupcake pans. So I need to go buy some. asap. lol.

Happy Graduation Justine

Here is a little re-cap of the Justine's graduation weekend in Des Moines. It was so fun!
GRADUATION DAY (sat):
GRADUATION OPEN HOUSE & RECITAL (sun):
My favorite part of the weekend was that it was so long with my family! Thursday-Monday! I didn't want to leave them. The family from TX, and all the family from Des Moines together again! It was such a blessed time for me :)
I didn't get to take David to Snookies, like I wanted. That should be around for a while though...soon we will do that. I also wanted to take him to Big Tomato, but we are never up past 11pm.
I loved last weekend. It was awesome.

A quick story

I was practicing my violin for my little sister's recital tonight. I asked David in the other room if he had a pencil on the computer desk, he said, "no". I was to lazy to get up and go find one, so I didn't get to mark my music. I really needed to mark some half steps that I was forgetting to play. After I was done practicing, without a pencil, I was putting away my music stand and a pencil fell off of it. There was a pencil there the whole time. Bummer.

A tribute to my mom

I love you mom! I miss you and I wish I could be with you today. I had no idea it would be this hard. Here is a hug for you today!
I love you, mom,
because I can call you with cooking questions. You know how to explain to me what I need to know/how to do something.
I love you, mom,
because when I was growing up I could always ask you questions I had about the Bible. You are so knowledgeable about these things.
I love you, mom,
because you didn't tell us kids that santa claus was real. This helped the disappointment growing up. Plus, if you think about it...santa claus is a lie. We should all be celebrating the real reason for Christmas. That is not a lie. Wow, random bunny trail.
I love you mom,
because you have always had a clean line for design and fashion. I get that from you. You should have been a graphic designer. You have the coolest hair, way to cool for a mom.
I love you mom,
because I can hear the alto line to any song. Thanks to you always singing it.
I love you mom,
because you can't roll your tongue!
I love you mom,
because you have a facebook account and go onto it frequently.
I love you mom,
because you can sew, just like Project Runway!
I love you, mom,
because nurses as moms makes the best mom. You are so compassionate, but is always knowledgeable on what to do when I don't feel up to par.

I love you mom,
because you are my mom.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

Scones

I made scones this morning. Something that I have always wanted to do. Thanks, Annie, for providing me with the recipe. They turned out great! Here is the recipe with visuals:

CRANBERRY SCONES
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Baking Time: 15 minutes
Ingredient List:
2-1/2 cups flour
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup butter
1 cup cranberries (fresh or dried)
2/3 cup sugar
3/4 cup buttermilk
Glaze
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon warm water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Baking Equipment Needed
Large Mixing bowlPastry cutter or fork2 un-greased baking sheets or scone pans (see below)
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Step 2: Mix together the flour, baking powder and baking soda.

Step 3: Cut in butter with a pastry blender or fork until it resembles course crumbs. (First time to use my pastry cutter)

Step 4: Stir in cranberries.

Step 5: Add sugar and buttermilk until just blended.

Step 6: Divide dough in half; roll each portion into an 8-inch circle, about 1/2 inch thick, on a lightly floured surface. (hahaha...I seriously used a ruler!)

Step 7: Cut each portion into 8 wedges; arrange wedges on un-greased baking sheets or in scone pans. Repeat with other half of dough.

Step 8: Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes; remove to a wire rack to cool.
You can glaze, but I didn't.
Eat with coffee or tea! Enjoy.
