Make over my make-up

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not great with applyingmake-up. It’s not my best skill. I do the basics and that is about all. I feellike I should do more, but I don’t really like a heavy “made-up” face. I ammore of the natural kind of make-up type.

However, my makeup “storage system” was driving me nuts. Itwas an unorganized mess. I couldn’t find what I needed when I needed it. Thismorning was the first morning I used my new and improved organized make-upsystem, it was great!

Zucchini bread

My brother-in-law has a fantastic garden. He gave me a zucchini from his garden, so I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to make zucchini bread. I have never made zucchini bread before and only tasted it once. I was excited to try this bread recipe. To my surprise, it was super easy to make and really tasty to eat!

Sift flour, salt, baking powder, soda, and cinnamon together in a bowl.

Beat eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar together in a large bowl.

Add sifted ingredients to the creamed mixture, and beat well.

Stir in zucchini and nuts (I didn't use nuts) until well combined.

Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake for 40 to 60 minutes, or until tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on rack for 20 minutes. Remove bread from pan, and completely cool.

Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2 1/4 cups white sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups grated zucchini
1 cup chopped walnuts
Directions

This weekend we went to Des Moines, and I gave Justine her birthday present early! I had a little bit of a challenge in front of me. I wanted to give Justine feathers for her hair. Fun idea, but it is a salon service. How do I wrap up and give a salon service?!? So I whipped up this cute page on the computer (thank goodness that I am a graphic designer), printed it, and wrapped it up. I thought it was a creative and cute way to give the salon service present:

The royal wedding dress

I loved Kate's dress. Elegant, simple, modern, classic, and fit like a royal glove. My favorite part of the dress was the placement of the skirt. It hit her waist/hips perfectly. My next favorite part of the dress was the neck line. It set-off/framed her glowing face. I am not a big fan of lace, but this was done so subtly and elegantly that I love lace now. I don’t really like long trains, but for a royal wedding it is dramatic and a must.

I saw this interview with Jay Leno and was so encouraged. I love classical music. It is really a part of who I am. Sometimes I forget how much I love it. When I saw this conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, on Jay...I just had to share. I was so proud that he interviewed classical music conductor. What a delight :)

It was a beautiful new years day wedding day for Adeng and Annie. They looked amazing and were so happy. I am so honored that David and I could be a part of it :)

I need your help

One of my best friends, Annie, is getting married on January 1st, 2011! I am so excited to see her and her fiance, Adeng, become one.
I need your help, I can't decide which dress to wear. Here is some info about the wedding so you can get a feel of what dress would be most appropriate.
It is going to be an afternoon wedding at a church in Omaha, NE. A cake reception to follow. The colors are red and gold. My other best friend, Katie, and I are in charge of the guest book.
How fun, all my college friends will be reunited again! I can't wait :)
So, here are your choices:

I was thinking about the Advent Calendar the other day. I know what you have to do...but I wasn't sure why people do them. Of course it is fun to get little gifts every day, but what is the real meaning?

An early new years resolution

I decided to make a new years resolution, starting today.
Let me explain. I sent my Mom's birthday card on Friday, November 12. Her birthday was the NEXT day Saturday, November 13. COME ON...this is not email, Judy, it takes a couple of DAYS to get from one mailbox to the other!
I am so disappointed in myself, I honestly can't think of one birthday card that arrived on time in the year 2010. So sad.

The resolution:
In the year 2011, I will put forth every effort to get birthday cards out early or on time.

How am I going to do this you ask? I have a couple of ideas that I am excited to implement this year:

Make a list of all the birthdays I need to remember
Put all the birthdays in my phone under their contact and have my phone remind me a week in advance (I don't know if this is possible, but David will help me figure it out. Maybe there is a phone app for this)
Start buying birthday cards in advance to have on hand, so when I remember, I will have a bunch purchased (or made by me, a designer. Go figure, what a thought...maybe making birthday cards is a good resolution for next year if this one goes well)

That is all the ideas I can think of right now. How do you do it? Do you have any great ideas you want to share with me?

Niece and Aunt look alike

Orange Cup

Tonight my family and I walked around this shopping center in San Antonio, TX. My brother Joe and I went to this place called Orange Cup. It serves frozen yogurt.

I loved everything about it!

Healthy, modern/clean design, fun, and "green" all at the same time. Joe said that the interior reminded him of an Apple store....this is a good comparison. The worker was so nice and gave us samples to try of the 4 frozen yogurt flavors there. You can add healthy mix-ins with your frozen yogurt or you can get it blended like a smoothie. They had this thing where you can plug in your iPod and play your own music in the store. Joe plugged his phone into it and it worked. Maybe everywhere does this, but this is the first time I have seen it. I will posts pics later of my own experience there, but here are some off their website. A very cool website too.

I am going to San Antonio with my family to visit more family(Thursday-Monday). We will all be together again just like this picture (minus the sledding and snow activity):

Justine (my little sis) and I were down there in 2005 or 2006. We stopped in San Antonio for the night before we went to Monterry, Mexico for a missions trip. I want us to recreate this pirctures to see how we have changed! I think that would be fun.

Hopefully I will come back with fun stories and pics for my blog! Everyone have a good weekend.

It has been 1 year for simplyJUDYBLIGH.
I love blogging and hope to keep it going strong...hopefully even more posts than last year. For the first year, I posted 101 times. Not bad!

My goals for my blog a year from now:
-is to post 200 times in the second year.
-to get at least 50 followers (if you don't follow me...please do so)
